The Wedding Escort Group
In July 2019, club advanced tutor and all round nice guy, Dave Hardwick, pased away, aged only 64.
E-YARD formed a funeral courtege in August to escort Dave on behalf of his family on his final journey.
To honour Dave's memory, a promise was made at his funeral that we would escort his step son Mike Huggins and his bride to be Lyndsay, on their wedding day, so some of Dave could be there.
Bedecked with blue and white ribbons in homage to Dave's team, Oldham Athletic, Pippa Unwin, Ian Streets, Paul Morton and Chris Hood escorted the wedding car to Rise Hall for their reception.
Sue, his widow, simply said "I'm sure Dave would have loved it. He would have dropped his bike though!"
She contacted the club the following day with these words.
“I just want to thank you again for yesterday. Can you (accept) my thanks please. It felt like David had a part in the wedding and really added to the day. The blue and white streamers were a great idea. He would have loved it. It was great. I had a lump in my throat most of the day. He would have enjoyed the day too. I know Mike and Lindsey really appreciated you doing this.“
Pippa summed up the feelings of the group, especially the team put together as a special escort, with the following words.
"I feel humbled and privileged to have been part of this little Wedding Escort Group yesterday
A tribute to one of our clubs members who sadly passed away before his step son married his beautiful bride. This escort of the wedding car was arranged in his honour. The bride was stunningly beautiful, and the smile on her, and her husbands, faces, just made it even more amazing.
I love being a part of the EYARD family"
Pippas words say it all.
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Huggins, with all our hearts!
