June Review '19
RoSPA Advanced Drivers & Riders East Yorkshire (E-YARD) first engagement of Summer 2019 was the first weekend of June, with E-YARD supporting Ride the Waves, the annual Bridlington Beach Race event.
Saturday saw Carolyne and Julia representing RoSPA and E-YARD, whilst Andy B, Pippa and Jo B did the honours on Sunday
Chris Whitfield and Pippa Unwin both had their car test with Ken Wilson on 10 June and both qualified with Gold grades
Training continued through the month, with Dave R commencing his bike training with Rosie
The group welcomed another new member, who joined the monthly Coddiwomple as her introduction to E-YARD, a rambling ride over some of North Yorkshires more challenging roads!
Welcome Leigh - you'll fit in well here!
On the subject of the ride-out for June, it was a quite hastily prepared route led by Rosie that took in the most fantastic scenery North Yorkshire Moors and the Wolds have to offer.
Commencing at Beverley Golf Club at 10 prompt (well, twenty past!) and heading out toward Malton.
Lunch was taken at the cycle hub after traversing what some members refer to as 'goat tracks'!
The ride ended with the traditional cuppa at Seaways
A brilliant day was had by all!
Vice Chair, Jo and newbie associate Leigh shared a birthday in June, and this naturally brought about a social get together.
A formal afternoon high tea, with cakes and cucumber sandwiches (no crusts) was enjoyed at the Lairgate in Beverley, before a turn of tone when the gang hit the town in the evening, enjoying the beautiful warm summers eve!
Wednesday 26 June was the monthly club meeting, with Pippa delivering a very interesting and professional presentation on the Science of Being Seen (SoBS)
Based on publications resulting from scientific research, Pippa expalined how and why we don't always see what we think we see, how motorcyclists particularly can become camouflaged in some circumstance, and what can be done to prevent collisions.
Pippa 'popped' this presentation in before heading off motorcycling in Kyrgyzstan, and also managed a quick tutor session with her associate Christine - Busy Lady!!
As June grew to a close, Julian T and Andy T both represented the group at Humberside Police BikeSafe, receiving thanks from Howie and the team.
Whilst Andy and Jules were doing their best to recruit more advanced riders, Advanced Tutor, Ian S was busy training Guy in the role of Tutor, whilst starting Ken's training.
Ken has recently joined E-YARD having won free membership through a promotion run by Andy Gaze proprietor of Into Gear.
Another great moth for E-YARD, and as the summer gets into full swing the group has a lot of stuff coming up!
No figures for how many hours tutoring are available at the time of publishing.
