October Review

October was designated National Tyre Month by the road safety community and the monthly meeting was intended to be a look at the rubbery round things and how they work!

However through circumstances beyond the groups control the meeting had to be cancelled, as the venue of East Coast Motorcycle World became unavailable.

This one off loss of the venue has now become a semi permanent one as the shop opening hours / days have changed over the 'off season' meaning they are not open both Monday and Tuesday.

Over the first weekend of the month, E-YARD's inaugural training weekend took place.

A limited group, due to Chris Hood and John Wright having to pull out, saw Rosie, Andy T and Tom make their way to Dumfries Premier Inn.

Rosie rode the scenic route, carrying out assessment on Andy's riding, via Wensleydale Creamery, meeting Tom in his car in Scotland.

The Saturday saw a change of role with Andy taking Tom out for a tutor session as Rosie visited old haunts on her bike.

Whilst only a small group, the participants found the format a success and showed that mixed discipline training sessions worked.

RoSPA's Care on the Road magazine featured Chris Hood, Dave Pattenden, Guy Gregory and Alwyn Tolson with a review of the group involvement in the UKRO challenge and older drivers & motorcycle promotion.

Some solid training rides and drives took place, again seeing all the tutors carrying out sessions with associates throughout the month with some great feedback.

A planned monthly rideout to Tan Hill was amended on the day due to the high winds brought by the tail end of Hurricane Ophellia and became a trip to Helmesley and Thirsk with Rosie, and Chris with Jo as pillion.

The Christmas 'Do' was booked for the 9 December at Sleepers, Beverley. If anyone else wishes to be added please let the secretary know ASAP!!

Due to the unavailability of East Coast MC World an extraordinary meeting of the committee was called, comprising the Chair - John Wright, Secretary - Chris Hood, Training Officer - Julian Taylor, committee members Rosie, Jo Bowers and Andy Trevor.

As a result of this meeting several matters were resolved, including future training programmes for tutors and associates alike, but more importantly the decision to use alternate meeting places as a permanent location could not be secured at this time.

On this point the November meeting will take place at 1930hrs, Tuesday 7 November at Mercure Hotel, Willerby.
