UKRO Challenge

UKRO Challenge (United Kingdom Rescue Organisation) is being held in Hull and hosted by the Humberside Fire & Rescue Service.

The event forms part of the Hull City of Culture 2017 events.

The main events are competitive rescue challenges.

These include:

Vehicle Extrication - 50 of the UK’s top teams compete in a 20 minute, two car, single casualty scenario using a standard set of rescue tools.

Rope Rescue - The aim of this Challenge is to bring together teams of rope rescue personnel who are committed, not only to displaying their ability, but also to expanding their practical skills by learning from and teaching others involved in the same discipline.

Trauma Care - Over the two days up to 30 fire service medics will compete in all aspects of first aid and advanced trauma care. This will take place against a background of simulated accidents and injuries.

There are also water rescue and search challenges.

The challenges is being held over 3 days, commencing Thursday 7 September and concluding at 1800 Saturday 9 September.

The venues are KCOM Stadium and Princes Quay (water based challenges)

Whilst all this is very exciting, you may be wondering where this fits with RoSPA, RoADAR and specifically, East Yorkshire Advanced Riders & Drivers?

Well the event is extended to all aspects of safety including Road safety and collision reduction.

What has been identified is the larger and still growing population of older drivers, and an associated need to involve this group actively in casualty reduction programes.

The amount of powered two wheel collisions and incidents is still high in comparison to other forms of road users.

E-YARD has been asked to assist this event in these two areas.

Firstly there will be a conference and workshop looking at the older driver.

This will take place at KCOM stadium on Thursday 7 September, and will include agencies such as the Fire & Rescue Service, Police and other formal bodies as well as input from organisations such as RoSPA and other road safety/training providers.

Representing (RoADAR East Yorkshire) East Yorkshire Advanced Riders & Drivers will be Julian Taylor and Dave Pattenden.

The theme will be continued on Saturday when numerous organisations, from ourselves to health care to mobility providers will be awarded places in an exhibition hall at KCOM.

E-YARD will be represented on a stand aimed at road safety in older drivers by Dave Pattenden and Chris Hood. They will be promoting the RoSPA Experienced Driver Assessment.

Additionally other members of E- YARD - Alwyn Tolson and Guy Gregory, assisted by former GAP representative Geoff Blackburn will represent both the group and RoSPA on a stand dedicated tot he promotion of motorcycle safety through primarily through further training.

Fantastic news that E-YARD is being included in, and pivotal to a national event and part of the celebrations of the 2017 UK City of Culture
